The Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (NIMELSSA), Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Chapter, has applauded the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, for his steadfast commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

The commendation was made during a courtesy visit to the commissioner in Lafia, led by the association’s president, Comrade Obulamah Abubakar. The students expressed their deep appreciation for Dr. Gwamna’s leadership and contributions to the state’s healthcare system.

While congratulating Dr. Gwamna on his recent reappointment by the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, Comrade Obulamah described the development as a well-earned recognition of the commissioner’s dedication and consistent efforts in repositioning the health sector.

He also acknowledged the Ministry of Health’s instrumental role in the success of the association’s 2024 “Health Week” program, attributing the achievements to the Ministry’s unwavering support.

As part of the visit, the association formally informed the commissioner about its upcoming event, the “NIMELSSA Health Week,” scheduled for July. This year’s focus will be on advocacy and public education about Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Comrade Obulamah sought the Ministry’s technical support to ensure the success of the initiative.

In appreciation of the Ministry’s continuous support, the association presented a commemorative plaque to Dr. Gaza Gwamna as a token of gratitude.

In his response, Dr. Gaza Gwamna commended the proactive leadership of Comrade Obulamah and lauded the association’s commitment to making meaningful contributions beyond the classroom. He expressed his delight in seeing students initiate community-focused programs and assured them of the Ministry’s support for their upcoming activities.

Dr. Gwamna also proposed a collaborative effort among all health-related student associations within the university to organize a “Mega Health Week.”

He encouraged NIMELSSA to take the lead in coordinating this initiative, emphasizing the potential impact such a joint program could have on both the university and surrounding communities.
