The member representing Ndokwa nation at the House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements Rt. Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai has declared that what the country needs is true fiscal federalism to promote a unitary system of government. The bulky lawmaker who spoke with our Delta Assembly Correspondent, Tina Agu in Asaba, argued that for Nigeria to make progress, the centre must devolve power and allow the component units or states to generate their revenues and contribute to the centre. I believe that Nigeria can do well if she embraces true federalism. When Nigeria was operating regional governments, the nation was doing well and prospering in all facets. I therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that he leaves a legacy of giving Nigeria true federalism”.
On the share of funds in the 2020 budget to tackle critical Infrastructures in the three local government areas, Rt. Hon. Ossai Ossai said that he has made tremendous progress in the 9th Assembly in legislative process having passed no fewer than 30 bills.
Rt. Hon. Ossai Ossai said that he has attracted seven Primary health care centres in various communities and they are fully completed, but regretted that the council leaders are yet to acquire them. He also pointed that council leaders are yet to acquire them. He also pointed that councils must not rely on allocation from the federal government alone, but should strive to generate their own funds.
Also speaking on the issue of local government autonomy Rt. Hon. Ossai Ossai argued that the state government should take charge of local government and streamline its laws to ensure that they are effective, insisting that the councils should be manned by focused individuals. People should be allowed to go for free and fair election and stop politicizing issues of development.
Rt. Hon. Ossai Ossai, while speaking on the Federal Polytechnic Kwale bill, stated that he was able to initiate a bill to that effect which was passed by the house of representatives and transmitted the same bill to the senate on the 12th day of December, 2019 and also appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to support the establishment of the institute of Industrial technology, Kwale, which was enacted by the defunct Bendel State government. He equally promised to reach out to the incoming executive body of the Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, to address the twin issues of oil productions quantum and another state constituency in the Ndokwa area.
