PRESS STATEMENT: APPMEN CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

As political parties prepare to commence campaigns on August 7, 2026 in line with the INEC timetable ahead of the January 2027 general elections, APPMEN urges governments at all levels to prioritize the completion of all abandoned and ongoing projects initiated to improve the lives of Nigerians.

We charge leaders to ensure honest implementation of at least 50% of the promises made during the last electioneering campaigns. Fulfilling these commitments will go a long way in winning the confidence and support of the masses in the coming elections.

Leaders must put the country and its citizens first, above personal interests and political gains. It is time to restore the lost glory of Nigeria as the Giant of Africa. We task all stakeholders to promote ideals and standards that unite us rather than divide us — ideals that will make other African countries and the rest of the world respect, cherish, and value our citizens and our nation.

APPMEN particularly calls for the empowerment of youths and the creation of an enabling environment for SMEs. This is the surest path to boosting and stabilizing our economy.

Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. Governments at all levels should harness these untapped potentials to better the lot of our people, create opportunities for businesses to thrive, and make our economy flourish beyond imagination.

While we commend leaders for their monumental accomplishments within the last three years, we charge them to do more to take the country to the next level.

Citizens and all stakeholders in the Nigerian project must play their part to achieve a Nigeria that works for all.

We advise all political actors to shun hate speech, violence, and acts capable of throwing the nation into unnecessary crisis. Let us focus on issue-based campaigns that will attract massive support from the electorate. Elections should not be seen as a do-or-die affair. We need each other now and after the polls.

Finally, governments at all levels must honestly justify the huge allocations received in the last three years through visible projects that have directly impacted citizens and the nation.

APPMEN remains an indispensable companion in the building of The Nigeria We Want.
