Gov. Okpebholo Recycling Obaseki’s Mistake as New Win in Old Bottle——-Ex Senator Alimikhena’s Spokesman
Former Spokesman for Senator Francis Alimikhena, Mr Benjamin Atu, has accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of building new structures on a faulty foundation, saying if we all conceded that Obaseki was a sinner due to his fragrance disobedience to court orders,
why is Governor Monday Okpebholo recycling Obaseki’s administration’s mistakes as a new wine in old bottle.
He described the current administration as a copy and paste of the previous Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, with disrespect for the judiciary as the hallmark.
“The Governor has not demonstrated to the people of the State that he is different from Obaseki. If Obaseki was a bad leader, Governor Okpebholo would have demonstrated how to be a good leader by not repeating Obaseki’s mistakes. What lesson of revenge or tolerance is he impacting on the future leaders.”
According to him, Governor Monday Okpebholo promised Edo people that he would represent Fairness, Equity, and Justice, but in less than two months in office, he sacked all elected Council Chairmen and refused to obey several court orders that reinstated them. If we concede Obaseki was wrong what has changed? The Governor Okpebholo’s effort in turning Edo State into an economic giant to dwarfing other neighboring States, would require intellectual focus and steady commitment and not yielding to misleading advice of ongoing strong arm tactics that can only lead to predictable end. The Governor has the opportunity to write his name in gold rather than building on a faulty foundation.
Benjamin Atu, who served as a Senior Special Assistant on Media in the Obaseki administration and spokesman for the former Edo State Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, said, the people of Edo State are yet to experience the fairness, equity, and justice that the Governor promised during his campaign. Local Government Council are currently under chains without developmental activities since his assumption of office as Governor. Those they impose at the helm of affairs neither know their left from their right as the entire local Government in the State are looming in the dark without direction.
In a statement issued today in Abuja over the State of affairs across the local government Council, said, all forms of disobedience to court orders is an unguided invitation to anarchy.
“Those who serve in institutions established by the constitution have a duty to ensure that their actions do not violate constitutional provisions or court orders. We all have the unalloyed duty to subsume political differences by abiding by the constitution as interpreted by the Court.” The AGF and various Courts have issued orders. The few gains made in the various councils are now being washed away. The public interest should be priorities as the elected Chairmen has just two years to exit office”.
The Statement maintained that the Governor should build a legacy of a father figure who serves as Governor of everybody rather than the ongoing actions that has made some persons Widows and others orphans. “Political parties come and go, but the problem that binds us together as a state will always be with us, and we will only be remembered by what we have done, be it good or evil. I therefore urge the Governor to think about Ambrose Ali’s memory’s and compare with the current memory of sack that he is building for himself.
He should therefore restore all Council Chairmen and build a viral State not on a faulty foundation of fragrance disobedience to law.
Benjamin Atu, a veteran broadcaster, expressed concern that Edo State LGA may not receive direct federal government allocation because the state do not have elected council Chairmen, as directed by the Supreme Court and the tenure of the elected Chairmen have not expired therefore they can’t be another election. Edo State Government can’t eat his cake and have it. We cannot disobey one aspect of the Supreme Court’s ruling while wishing to benefit from the other. We are not in a vehicle that doesn’t know how to stop. We can stopped at this point and reinstate all the Chairmen while we wait for their two years to expire.
“My plea became necessary because Politics has replaced the Development and urgent attention that each local Government Councils needs to make progress. The government must not fail to provide the protective father figure that is expected of a Governor of a State. Governor Monday Okpebholo is not a Governor of the APC, but of the Labour Party members, the PDP, the APGA, and others citizens of the State therefore, there is nothing wrong with using everyone in the State, regardless of political affiliation, to achieve his administration’s goal,” the statement added.
