The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, has lauded Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for his transformative investments in the state’s healthcare sector.

He made the remarks during the official flag-off of the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) held at the palace of the Andoma of Doma in Doma Local Government Area.

Dr. Gwamna highlighted several initiatives under Governor Sule’s administration, describing them as clear evidence of a strong commitment to improving healthcare access and quality across the state. He praised the Governor’s political will and visionary leadership, noting the ongoing efforts to reposition the sector for sustainable growth.

Reiterating the Ministry’s dedication, the Commissioner assured residents that no child in Nasarawa State would be left unprotected from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Representing Governor Sule at the event, Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to maintain the nation’s polio-free status, as declared by the World Health Organization in 2020. He thanked development partners, including WHO and UNICEF, for their continued support and collaboration in strengthening the healthcare system.

Dr. Akabe announced that the immunization campaign would begin on Saturday, April 26, 2025, with vaccination teams mobilized to homes, schools, markets, playgrounds, and worship centers to reach all eligible children. He emphasized that the vaccine is safe and free, and called on political, religious, and traditional leaders to champion the initiative in their communities.

The Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Hon. Jonathan Okuba Addra, and the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo, both expressed delight in Doma’s selection for the flag-off and pledged full support for the immunization exercise and broader health initiatives.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by representatives of WHO, UNICEF, the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the state ALGON, all of whom pledged continued support to enhance healthcare delivery in Nasarawa.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic administration of the Oral Polio Vaccine to children aged 0 to 5, signaling the formal commencement of the 2025 NIPDs campaign.
