Governor Abdullahi Sule has given the go-ahead for the establishment of another military super camp in Tatara, Panda Development Area of Karu Local Government Area.
Governor Sule who visited Tatara on Monday to commiserate with the people over the recent crisis that left seven people dead, said he will approve two hundred million naira for the military camp to be established in Tatara, a border community with Kaduna State.
According to the Governor, no amount of money is too much as long as it involves the welfare and security of the people of the state.
“I will approve N200m needed to set up the military super camp in Tatara. Because there is no amount of money that is so much when it comes to the lives of our people,” he said.
While condemning the crisis as barbaric and unnecessary, the Governor warned that his administration would not take it lightly with any person who does not want to live in peace with others.
“Our aim in this state is to live in peace with everybody. We know the constitution of Nigeria has given people the opportunity to live where they wish, but we also have our wish that whoever will live in Nasarawa State must live in peace with one another. Anybody who does not want to live in peace, he has no place in Nasarawa State,” he said.
He emphasized that his administration is doing everything possible to ensure peace and security across the state because Nasarawa State is undergoing visible transformation.
“As far as we are concerned, Nasarawa State is on the rise, and Nasarawa State is seeing potential for development. Nasarawa State is being developed gradually. We can not afford to have people who do not want to live in peace in Nasarawa State. That is the reason why we are doing everything possible to ensure that we bring peace and unity to our people,” he added.
Governor Sule disclosed that his administration has already established similar military super camps in crisis prone border communities of Loko, Toto, Udege and Awe, with a view to de-escalate communal skirmishes in those areas, with Tatara a border community with Kaduna State coming up next.
He assured the people of Tatara that his administration would take every measures available to restore peace and security to the area.
“What happened to you people in Tatara, I want you to know that we are responsible for your welfare. We are responsible for your security. As a responsible Government, we will continue to support you and do whatever it is to bring peace to Tatara. Not just because of the crisis you are witnessing but because Tatara is a border town,” he stated.
Speaking with journalists at the event, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, narrated that the incidence occurred on Saturday, 11th January, when unknown gunmen infiltrated into Tatara and started killing and maiming people, leaving seven persons dead.
CP Mohammed assured that perpetrators of the heinous crime would be brought to book and dealt with.
“I’m assuring you that as the CP in this state, we will make sure that all those who committed this heinous crime must be fished out and must be dealt with. We are not going to spare anybody,” he said.
On her part, Councillor representing Tatara Electoral Ward, Hon. Linda Yona, assured the Governor that youths in Tatara would not take the law into their hands by retaliating the attack on the community.
“We want to assure you that the youths of Tatara will not in any way retaliate this attack. We will wait faithfully for the security men to carry out their investigation and it will be a great thing for us to see these people brought to book. Three months ago this thing happened. We are yet to recover from that and this happened,” she said.
Also commenting, the Odyong Nyankpa of Panda, HRH, Barrister Joel Sabo Aninge, commended Governor Sule for taking proactive steps to restore peace to Tatara, ensuring that the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander and Commanding Officer, 177 Battalion Keffi were on ground to bring succour to the people.
The royal father disclosed that as a result of its proximity to neighboring states of Kaduna and Niger, Tatara is prone to attacks from across neighboring borders.
“We are a peaceful people. Our proximity to Southern Kaduna has exposed us to frequent incursions and attacks. There is always killing and kidnapping people for ransom. The community is mostly affected by the crisis taking place in neighboring states of Kaduna and Niger States,” he said
