A total of 620 Lock-up shops and 76 open stores at the Udu Harbour Market will be completed and ready for commissioning by His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in April.







Delta State Hon. Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon. Samuel Oligida, who revealed the various stages of work at the ongoing construction of a world-class market with modern amenities, said Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to building a multi-city state through the MORE AGENDA of Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all, Realistic Reforms and Enhance Peace and Security
He described the Udu Harbour Market project as a critical infrastructure development aimed at increasing trade and investment in the region, stimulating economic activity, creating job opportunities, Poverty reduction, and promoting entrepreneurship.
The Hon. Commissioner, who was speaking during an inspection tour of the Udu market projects at the weekend, said the ministry of Trade and Investment is poised to be the engine room for the promotion of economic and industrial growth and wealth creation for all Deltans. “The multiplier effects of this market when completed, will sink poverty and joblessness from this region as thousands of idle hands will be engaged in productive ventures. The market will not only stimulate economic growth, but will also encourage agriculture and local investment.”

Hon. Samuel Oligida expressed the need for the contractor to expedite actions to ensure that the project is completed on time, warning that the State government will not accept any project that fails to meet the required specifications.
“Value for State government investment must be the primary focus of every contractor managing Delta State government projects. Accountability to Deltans begins with ensuring value for all government investments,” he said.
While inspecting various aspects of the project, the Trade and Investment Commissioner stressed the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in ensuring speedy completion of the project for the benefit of the people. He further emphasized the importance of adhering to the project specifications without compromise standard. He warned against sharp practices, that will lead to use of low quality materials, saying that the professionals would all be held accountable for any substandard work as the state government is committed to ensuring value for money.
Hon. Oligida who commended the pace at which the roofing work was executed, tasked the contractor to ensure that the flooring and water channels are properly measured to avoid an undulating floor that prevents free flow of erosion.
The highpoint of the commissioner’s visit was an extensive site meeting with the contractor and other stakeholders, where the consultant was tasked with providing the necessary drawings for the open market, while the damaged abattoir trusses were to be unscrewed, straightened, and replaced immediately.
