UZODIMMA NAMED GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR 2025 AT 18th LEADERSHIP ANNUAL CONFERENCE
By Ambrose Nwaogwugwu
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has been named Governor of the Year 2025 at the 18th edition of the LEADERSHIP Newspaper Annual Conference and Awards, held yesterday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The award, one of the high points of the conference, celebrates public officials whose leadership has translated into visible progress. In the case of Governor Uzodimma, the organisers cited his steady effort to rebuild public trust through measurable performance.
Taking office at a moment of sharp political tension and public doubt, the governor chose to concentrate on institutional repair. Rather than be drawn into prolonged disputes, he focused on restoring order in governance, strengthening state systems, and delivering practical results. Over time, that approach has altered both the physical outlook of Imo State and the confidence of its people.
Infrastructure renewal remains one of the clearest markers of this shift. Strategic roads in Owerri and across major arteries of the state have been reconstructed and expanded, improving movement, commerce, and access to communities. Urban renewal efforts have also revived public spaces that once reflected neglect, contributing to fresh economic activity and civic pride.
Youth development stands as another defining pillar. Through the Skill-Up Imo Project, thousands of young people have received training in digital and technology skills, equipping them for opportunities within Nigeria’s growing knowledge sector. The initiative has strengthened the state’s standing as an emerging centre for technology-driven enterprise in the South East.
Security reforms anchored on intelligence gathering and closer community collaboration have further stabilised previously troubled areas. Residents and investors now operate in a climate of greater assurance, allowing social and economic life to regain steady footing.
In their citation, the organisers observed that credibility in public office is earned through consistency, inclusion, and verifiable outcomes. For guiding Imo State from uncertainty toward stability and renewal, Governor Uzodimma was honoured as Governor of the Year 2025.
The event drew prominent dignitaries from Imo State, including the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe; his Deputy, Rt Hon Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu KSc; the Clerk of the House, Barr. Chinelo Ndukwe Emeghara; the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba; and the Special Advisers to the Governor on Monitoring and Compliance and Youth Affairs, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri and Hon. Eric Uwakwe, among others, who were present to witness the conferment of the award.
