The Vice-Chancrllor, University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has described the Ika South Local Government Chairman, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, as a young man on a mission to break new grounds in effective leadership and governance.
Prof. Chiemeke made the assertion when he led the university’s management team on a courtesy visit to the local government Chairman in his office at Agbor.
The Vice – Chancellor noted that the Chairman’s style of governance, which she observed had been focused on infrastructure and human capacity building, had become a source of pride to residents of the local government area.
According to Prof. Chiemeke, “we have been monitoring your progress since becoming chairman of Ika South Local Government. I am glad to admit that the people are proud of the things you have been able to do. We are here principally to congratulate you, and to tell you that we appreciate you for the much you have done within a short time.
“As the local government hosting the institution, we are ready and willing to partner with you in all areas of mutual interests and benefits. I know there are many areas we can work together to boost social and other activities for the good of the people.”
Prof. Chiemeke, while listing some of the challenges being faced by the institution to include exorbitant rent paid by students, insecurity and drug abuse posed by some commercial motorcyclists, amongst others, called on the Chairman to find ways to intervene in tackling them.
She also urged the chairman to assist the institution in creating an alternative road to the one that passes through the Faculty of Science, as the management was hoping to close it and merge it with the faculty ground.
Earlier, while welcoming the university’s management team that included the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patricia Mba, the Registrar, Bar. Richmond Omagbemi, the Bursar, Pastor Sunny Ikoegwu, and the Chief Librarian, Dr. Mrs Vera Okonovo, Engr. Ehiwarior, said he was happy to know that the institution was doing well in contributing to Nigeria’s human capacity development.
He commended Prof. Chiemeke for the great work she was doing in positioning the school to be among the best in the country.
Ehiwarior said that Deltans were proud of her. “We are proud of your exemplary track records, as UNIDEL is gradually becoming one of the fastest growing institutions of higher learning in the country. You are, indeed, one of the finest Ika Nation has produced.
“The Council is ready to work closely with your school to raise individuals that would help build and enhance the fortune of our nation, he assured.
