The Rivers State chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) has resisted Governor Nyesom Wike’s decision to take a N18bn loan for the construction of a flyover and road expansion in Port-Harcourt.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Ogbonna Nwuke, it expressed displeasure and described the act as an abuse of office stressing that such money should be used judiciously for creating cottage industries and creating jobs for teeming youths in order to strengthen the economy.

The opposition party also informs that some of the projects being executed in the state have not been properly backed by the power of appropriation. It went further to maintain that as a consumer state which depends solely on federal allocation, government should ensure it embarks on Agriculture in order to be like their contemporaries in other states of the federation. But the speaker of Rivers House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikunyi Owaji said that the said N18billion loan would be channeled towards the construction of a flyover at the GRA Junction and the dualisation of the popular Mummy Band Tombia Internal roads. The 25 members of the House have voted in support of the governor as they unanimously agreed that the funds when released would be used to further compliment infrastructural development in the state.
