The PDP’s breakfast of deceit has turned into a noon of despair. As the Edo State Elections Petition Tribunal unfolds, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, have found themselves entangled in a web of their own making.
Initially, they thought victory was within their grasp, but as the tribunal progressed, their case began to crumble.
The court’s demands for proper certification of documents and witness lists exposed the PDP’s lack of preparation and transparency. It appears their strategy was to overwhelm the tribunal with unverified documents, hoping to substitute volume for credibility.¹
Asue Ighodalo’s tears behind the tribunal’s chamber, lamenting that Obaseki had put him in a precarious situation, only added to the PDP’s embarrassment. Their cries of “our mandate was stolen” now ring hollow, as Governor Okpebholo’s victory has been upheld with clear facts.
The PDP’s hide-and-seek game has reached a dead end. Their attempts to disrupt the tribunal’s proceedings, including the alleged deployment of a gunman in PDP attire, have been exposed. It’s time for them to abandon their petition and accept defeat graciously.
As the saying goes, when you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind. The PDP’s actions have consequences, and now they must face the music.
Will they beg Governor Okpebholo for mercy, or will they continue to cling to their futile petition?
Only time will tell.
