The Enugu State House of Assembly has indicated their readiness to deal with any contractor that is not living up to expectations in the state.
The Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development who’s also the Member representing the good people of Ezeagu, Rt. Hon. Chima E. Obieze disclosed this during a press briefing at the Assembly’s complex.
Obieze stated that in the coming days, the Committee will embark on state wide Project Inspection/oversight starting from Monday 5th of October 2020 as; “This is in line with the mandate and powers conferred on the State House of Assembly by virtue of Section128 & 129 of 1999 constitution at Chapter 5, Part 2.”
Obieze also used the opportunity to inform the affected Ministries, Department and Agencies to ensure that the relevant persons are part of the tour.
“The House Committee on works and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development wish to inform The Commissioner and entire Staff of the Ministry of Works, the State Project Coordinator and Staff of Rural Access Mobility Project (RAMP), the ALGON chairman and all Local Government Council Chairmen, All Contractors handling projects for and on behalf of the Government & people of Enugu State, members of the press and the general public.
That the Enugu State House of Assembly through her Committee on Works & Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development will embark on a state.
“The State Ministry of Works and Principal Officers of RAMP are to direct all Resident Engineers & a technical team to be part of the Tour.
“All Contractors must be on Site to receive and take questions from the House Members and our Technical crew.”
Obieze emphasized that; “All Contractors found wanting will be blacklisted as the Committee have no plans to condone waste and mismanagement of tax payers money. While all performing contractors will be appraised and encouraged.
“The Committee will also expose any negligence, corruption, complicity, non-compliance and incompetence on the part of any Contractor and any government/civil servant discovered during the oversight.
“It is our mandate as elected representatives of the people to ensure that they get the best and this is what we are out to ensure they get.
Obieze maintained that in as much as the committee is aware of the massive development of the governor, they won’t tolerate any form of sabotage by any contractor and also called on the general public with any observation to approach his office and submit same.
“We also know that the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is doing massive Rural and Urban Development. So we are out to ensure that no contractor or complicit State Worker sabotages His Excellency’s good intentions for the Enugu people.
“After this tour, the Contractors that have questions to answer shall be invited. Thereafter a detailed report shall be presented to the House for adoption as a working document for the State. With recommendations on way forward.
“We call on the general public or anyone who has any useful information, detail, concerning any government project going on within your area or vicinity to do well to notify the Committee through the office of the Chairman Room 212, Enugu State House of Assembly Complex or reach the Chairman on 08037505339.”
