The Imo State House of Assembly has advocated the need for the rehabilitation and upgrading of technical volleges in the State in a bid to solve the problem of unemployment and promote self reliance.
The House called on the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to rehabilitate and upgrade all Technical Colleges in Imo State, provide them with modern equipments, functional workshops and well trained instructors.
This was sequel to a motion Chiefly Sponsored by the representative of Mbaitoli state Constituency, Hon Innocent Ikpamezi.
The House also resolved that hostel facilities should be introduced in the existing Technical Colleges to encourage students from all parts of the State to enroll, adding that stipends or financial support should be provided for students pursuing Technical education as a means of encouragement as well as reducing number of school dropouts.
The house further, advocated strong partnership between Technical Colleges and Private Industries, to facilitate internships and employment opportunities for graduates of the scheme.
Chief Sponsore of the motion, Innocent Ikpamezie argued that technical education plays crucial roles in national development by producing skilled manpower in auto mechanic, building and concreting, carpentry, Refrigerator, Air-conditioning and other electronic repairs, fabrication and welding, electrical installation, mechanical works amongst others.
The Imo State House of Assembly has also received a report of its Committee on Local Government Area, Rural Development, Chieftaincy Affairs and Autonomous Communities on a petition presented by Ndegwu Concerned Citizens and Stakeholders in Owerri West Local Government Area, with the title ‘ Removal of Eze – Elect from office, against one Chief Nicholas Ishiuba Ojinnaka.
Speaker of the House, Mr. Chike Olemgbe refered the report to Committee of the whole house for consideration on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
