Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of a 100 megawatt (MW) power-generating plant and a 300 metric tons per day Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility at the Taihu Industrial Park, Ologbo, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, Okpebholo said the project formed part of his administration’s deliberate efforts to create an environmentally friendly ecosystem for manufacturing, job creation and sustainable economic growth in Edo State.

The governor described the project as a major milestone in the state’s journey towards industrial growth, energy security and economic transformation, noting that the investment would open new opportunities for cooperation between the state government and investors.

Okpebholo explained that his administration remained committed to implementing policies that encourage industrial development, adding that the government promptly partnered with the investors and provided land for the project when it was first proposed.

“We are happy that this great investment is happening in our time. I am not signing the MoU, but following the law to develop the State. We don’t sign fake MoUs but follow the laws in Edo State.

“Today marks another achievement in the state towards industrial growth, energy security and economic transformation.

“We are gathered here to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for these new power-generating and energy processing plants.

“I warmly welcome CCETC, as this project reflects your growing confidence in Edo State as a destination for investment and industrial friendliness.

“What we have here is our land, take it and invest here in Edo State. What matters to us is the investment, not the money, as we can’t behave like others,” the governor said

He stated that the initiative aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that reliable power supply remained the backbone of industrialisation and economic development.

The governor also appealed to the host community to support the project by maintaining peace and protecting the facility, assuring investors of the state government’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

In his welcome address, Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Hon. Eric Osawaru, described the groundbreaking ceremony as a significant milestone for the local government, Edo State and Nigeria’s energy sector, noting that the project would bring jobs, skills development and infrastructure growth to the area.

Also speaking, Edo State Commissioner for Power, Mr Paul Usebor, said the 100MW power plant would strengthen electricity supply within the state and beyond, while the 300 metric tons per day LNG facility would promote cleaner energy utilisation and enhance energy security when completed.
