The Big Three Working Policies of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR came into office with a promise of Renewed Hope, and beyond the big words, there are now clear policies that show what that hope really means for ordinary Nigerians. Three key areas stand out: student loans (NELFUND), economic recovery, and infrastructure rebuilding. These three are not theories or big grammar. They are real actions that affect people’s daily lives.

One of the biggest problems in Nigeria has always been the cost of education. Many brilliant students drop out simply because their parents cannot afford school fees. That is why the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is a big deal. It allows students to attend school through government-backed loans, rather than staying home due to poverty. In simple terms, NELFUND is saying: if you are willing to learn, lack of money should not stop you. This is not free handouts, but a fair system that gives young Nigerians a chance to build their future and pay back when they are working. An educated youth means a stronger Nigeria tomorrow.

The second major policy focuses on stabilising the economy. The truth is, Nigeria’s economy was in serious trouble, with excessive subsidies, a weak naira, low government revenue, and high debt. President Tinubu chose to address the problem rather than avoid it. A clear example is the removal of the fuel subsidy, which prevented the government from spending trillions of dollars annually on consumption rather than on development. Another is the foreign exchange reform, which ended multiple exchange rates and made the naira more transparent for investors and businesses. There are also revenue reforms aimed at expanding the tax net so that the same few people are not overburdened. In simple terms, the government is trying to stop financial leakages and build a system that can sustain itself. The idea is simple: you cannot keep borrowing and spending what you don’t have forever. Short-term pain, long-term gain.

The third policy focuses on building and repairing infrastructure, including roads, rail, power, ports, and digital systems. For example, rail lines such as the Lagos–Ibadan and Abuja–Kaduna are reducing travel time and improving safety. Major road projects, such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, are opening trade routes and creating jobs. In the power sector, reforms are encouraging greater private investment, enabling industries to secure a more reliable electricity supply rather than relying on generators. There is also growing attention to ports and digital infrastructure to help small businesses and exporters compete better. Simply put, better roads mean cheaper goods, better power means more jobs, and better rail means safer travel.

What makes these policies powerful is that they work together. NELFUND builds smart and skilled people. Economic reforms create a stable environment. Infrastructure gives people the tools to succeed. Together, they form a real development plan, not just campaign talk. President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope is not about noise or social media hype. It is about fixing the country’s foundation so that both today’s citizens and the next generation can have a better Nigeria.
