…Commend sacrifices of the Armed Forces,says their sacrifices will not go in vain

Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo on January 15 charged the people of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area to holistically demonstrate enduring commitment and support to the welfare of widows and families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo made the assertion in an address he delivered at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at Oporoma,the Council headquarters.

Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo,who led top military and parliamentary personnel as well as traditional rulers to lay the wreaths in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes, stressed the significance of the event commemorating the sacrifices of the Nigeria’s Armed Forces.

” The brave men and officers we have come here to celebrate and honour laid down their lives to safeguard the territorial integrity of this great nation.

” They did so ,not because they were conscripted,but because they voluntarily signed up for service, knowing full well that the outcome of their services may be a knock on the doors and hearts of family members that they have paid the ultimate price”, the Council Chairman said.

While praying for the repose of their souls, Honourable Segibo salute the heroes on their bravery and gallantry, and reminded Nigerians that the issues that led to their death,which were conflicts, ethnic, cultural, political and religious tensions that preceded the United Kingdom’s formal decolonization of Nigeria would be better neutered and managed at this time.

The Southern Ijaw Council Chairman lamented that over One Hundred Thousand military officers lost their lives in that avoidable civil war that lasted for two and half years while between Five Hundred and Two Million people died of starvation.

Honourable Segibo,who is pioneer member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly promised his administration’s preparedness to work closely with security agencies to protect lives and properties in the area, and called on the Federal Government to provide more modern equipments and security gadgets for the military and other security agencies in the country in order to protect the nation’s territory and fight terrorism, hostage taking, pipeline vandalism and sea piracy.

Responding to demands made earlier by the Legionnaires in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area,the Council Chairman approved a plot of land for the building of the legion secretariat, purchase of more uniform and wooden guns for the legionnaires amongst other.

Earlier, chairman of the legionnaires in the area, Deputy Corps Commander Amiekumo Angozimo eulogized the brilliant ideas and support of the Council Chairman towards the successful ceremony.

He requested for more support from the Council in the acquisition of a plot of land, additional uniforms and wooden guns as well as vehicle for the easy movement of legionnaires in the area.

Highlight of the ceremony was the laying of wreaths by the Council Chairman, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo,Vice chairperson of the Council,Dr. Josephine Akandi Ekeuwe,JTF Commander in the area,MWO Danladi Garba,DPO in charge of Oporoma Division, SP Agbalaiko Godwin as well as Chairman of Southern Ijaw traditional rulers Council who also is the Amananaowei of Eniwari, His Royal Highness,Darius Job Damo.

Dignitaries from all walks of life attended the ceremony.
