Sani Shinkafi, Joins Other Stakeholders On Zoning 2027 North Senate Seat In Zamfara

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has joined other stakeholders and residents of Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State to call for the zoning of the Zamfara North senatorial seat to their area ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the need for equity, fairness, and inclusive representation.

The demand gained renewed momentum following the decision of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, to join the race for the senatorial seat. Shinkafi recently obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms, signalling his intention to contest in the upcoming elections.

In a statement issued by his legal adviser, Barrister Yazid Salihu Aliyu, the move was said to be a response to sustained pressure from political stakeholders and constituents across the Zamfara North Senatorial District, who are advocating what they described as “bold and progressive representation.”

According to the statement, since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the district has struggled with what many residents consider ineffective representation at the Senate, limiting access to democratic dividends. Concerns were also raised over what stakeholders described as the long-standing dominance of the senatorial seat by a particular axis within the district, a situation they argue has sidelined other local governments, including Shinkafi.

Community leaders and supporters insist that zoning the seat to Shinkafi Local Government would correct perceived imbalances, strengthen unity, and accelerate development across the district, which they say has suffered years of marginalisation.

Responding to the calls, Shinkafi pledged to prioritise legislative interventions that would improve governance and attract meaningful development to Zamfara North. He emphasised the urgency of tackling critical security challenges such as armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and the displacement of communities.

A seasoned political figure, Shinkafi has held several strategic positions, including Patron of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Secretary of its Board of Trustees. He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Matawalle Governorship Campaign Council in Zamfara State.

Currently, the Executive Secretary of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, he aligned his ambition with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that the APC would maintain its political stronghold in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters describe his senatorial bid as a significant opportunity to ensure broader inclusion and deliver impactful representation for the people of Zamfara North at the National Assembly.
