NUJ President Advocates for Women’s Inclusion, Promises Support for FCT Council

The newly elected National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, has made a clarion call for greater inclusion of women in leadership roles within the Union and beyond.
Speaking at a “Thank You Party” organized by the newly elected executive council of the NUJ Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council in Abuja, Yahaya emphasized the importance of changing the narrative and fostering a more inclusive and collaborative union.
“We must give women a chance to showcase their abilities and lead effectively. I have no doubt in the capabilities of Grace Ike and her team. They have the experience, vision and drive to deliver on their promises and I will support the new Exco to succeed in their mission,” Yahaya promised.
The National President underscored the importance of unity and collective effort in driving the Union forward.
He noted that under his leadership, the NUJ would prioritize innovative reforms, inclusivity and professional excellence to ensure the welfare of its members and the credibility of journalism in Nigeria.
Yahaya’s endorsement of the FCT Council’s leadership, headed by Grace Ike, resonated strongly with attendees.
Ike, who was recently elected as the first female NUJ FCT Chairperson, expressed gratitude for the President’s support and pledged to work diligently to uphold the principles of the Union while championing the rights and interests of journalists in the FCT.
The event brought together journalists, stakeholders and well-wishers who applauded the progressive outlook of the new FCT NUJ leadership.
