In a significant development, Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, a renowned Nigerian expert in legislative drafting, has been appointed by the National University of Lesotho (NUL) to design a pioneering postgraduate program, “LEGISPRUDENCE-Philosophy of Legislation, Law-Making and Legislative Drafting”.

This prestigious appointment is a testament to Dr. Jaja’s exceptional expertise in legislative drafting, which he earned through his PhD in Law from the University of London. His impressive track record includes training Lesotho Ministry of Law and Justice staff and the Lesotho Law Reform Commission in legislative drafting.

Dr. Jaja’s passion for shaping the next generation of law-makers is evident in his previous roles, including serving as a visiting professor at KIIT University, India, and as an external supervisor at the University of Western Cape. His contributions to the field of legislative drafting have not gone unnoticed, as he was conferred with the Blue Silks rank of Senior Counsel of Nigeria-SCN in December 2025.

The new program at NUL aims to equip students with a deeper understanding of legislative processes, enhancing their capabilities in law-making and policy development. Dr. Jaja’s expertise will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and guiding students in this critical field.

This appointment cements Dr. Jaja’s position as a leading figure in legislative drafting and a champion of legal education in Africa. We eagerly anticipate the impact of his work on the continent’s legal landscape
