The Parliament Diary

The governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has received encomia from Imolites for his deliberate efforts that made Imo State the preferred Christmas destination for many indigenes and visitors from across Nigeria and overseas.

From across the length and breadth of the State, thousands of Imolites who returned home for the Christmas holiday could not hold back their joy at the deliberate efforts made by the Imo State government to ensure that the season is as peaceful and as enjoyable as it could have been.

Mr. Theodore Iwundu from Isiala Mbano who said that he had to brave the fears instilled in him about the State and returned home for the Christmas holiday, praised the governor for not losing sight of his vision for the State, even with the enormity of economic and social challenges prevalent across the country and even the world, the United Kingdom based nurse said he is impressed with the level of work the governor has put in place.

“When we are outside the State, a lot of negative stories are created and circulated through the social media that paint very wrong pictures about the State, but for some of us who braced these non-existent fears and visited home, we are seeing a different thing altogether. For instance, from what I read on social media, I would have expected a deserted State, a State where no activity is going on, nor any semblance of governance, but this is completely different from the reality I met on the ground. Do not get me wrong, Imo has not become Texas, but it is not the Hobbessian state that many people try to tell us it is. There are obviously some challenges, but the realities on the ground indicate that the government is relentlessly working round the clock to make the State a cynosure of development and prosperity.”

Speaking about the Christmas celebration in the State, Professor Chidimma Uwakwe praised the government for putting necessary infrastructure and security in place to ensure that the people enjoyed their Christmas holiday.

“This is a once in a year celebration, and as a predominantly Christian State, any amount of money invested in ensuring that our people enjoyed the Christmas holiday is not wasted. My relatives who are in the civil service acknowledged that the governor paid them double their salaries and also approved other largesses for them this Christmas. This is contrary to the impression many of us have about the administration in Imo State. Truth is, this government is humane, responsible and responsive. There is no bigger achievement that a government can record than ensuring the happiness of the greatest number of people. This is obviously what Governor Uzodimma has done, especially, this Christmas and I commend him for it.”

Comrade Chima Uzondu, a civil society activist based in Abuja, also appraised the rapid development of economically viable infrastructure across the State, as a notable achievement of Governor Uzodimma’s”Shared Prosperity ” administration which would last the test of time.

“I am not one to be convinced easily about the good intentions of politicians, but I am not also a cynic. This governor is doing marvelously in putting in place the right infrastructure in place for the benefit of our State and its people. I didn’t know it was possible to fix the Avu-Obosima road, because successive administrations have failed to get that road working. Many other strategic roads have either been completed or seriously undergoing reconstruction. This is what I expect true activists in the State to be talking about, not maligning the governor and making it look like the State has been abandoned. Let me say categorically, that the governor has done well in the area of infrastructure and also security. I haven’t heard any news of kidnapping or any attack in any part of the State since I returned from Abuja, rather, all I hear is how security agents have been raiding these terrorists and making the State safer for all of us. I call on my fellow activists to be less politically correct and commend the governor where he has done well.”

It is believed that Imo State is the busiest State in the country at the moment and this is credited to the government’s determination to ensure a safe, secure and joyful yuletide to its citizens and visitors from across the world. Hotels in Owerri, the capital city, and in the outskirts are fully booked, while the Owerri airport might be the busiest domestic airport in the country due to the influx of people to the State for the Yuletide.

the major reason for the huge economic and social activities taking place in Imo State is the government’s investment in infrastructure, job and wealth creation as well as improvement in the security of the State.

IMO IS WINNING!
