The Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Ika South Local Government, Hon. Kelvin Ehiwarior, along with senior officers in the Agriculture Department, has presented data on farmers in the local government area to the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, in his office at the Local Government Secretariat, Agbor.

Receiving the document, which captured farmers in all communities in Ika South, Engr. Ehiwarior commended the Supervisor on Agriculture, Hon. Kelvin Ehiwarior and his team for the painstaking and deliberate effort they put in gathering and putting the data together.

The Chairman said his administration was deeply committed to the development of agriculture, and stressed that farmers in the Local Government Area would be assisted in any way possible to ensure that there was food security for the people of Ika South.

He emphasised that the major need of man in any clime was sustainable affordable food supply, adding that once there was regular availability of food, the people could thrive in other areas of endeavours.

The Chairman assured that his administration would continue to initiate and pursue policies and programmes that would enhance the lives of the people, maintaining that the primary responsibility of any government was the welfare and security of its people.

He thanked the Supervisory Councillor, Hon. Ehiwarior, and members of staff of the Department of Agriculture of the local government for their commitment to duty, and encouraged them to always remain dedicated to their duties.

Earlier, while presenting the document to the Executive Chairman, the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Ehiwarior, disclosed that the exercise, which covered all the communities in Ika South, was made possible due to the immense support of the Chairman.

He noted that the success of the exercise was a pointer to the commitment of the Engr. Ehiwarior-led government to boosting agriculture and ensuring food security in the local government area

The Supervisory Councillor explained that during the exercise, “approximately 6,000 farmers were captured across the local government area.”

He noted that as the rains draw near, signalling the approach of the planting season, the data would help in identifying areas of assistance to farmers in Ika South.

The Supervisory Councillor thanked the Chairman for his leadership approach, which, he said, was geared towards human capacity building and infrastructure development of the entire local government area.
