The Parliament Diary

Urges him to Apply caution when talking about the Governor General of Ijaw Nation, Douye Diri.

Hon. Alapala has publicly condemned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s comments about the late Pa Edwin Clark, a revered Ijaw elder statesman who has not yet been laid to rest. Alapala is demanding an apology from Wike, emphasizing that Douye Diri, as the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation, holds a position that transcends that of a state governor. Therefore, Wike should exercise caution when speaking about him.

Alapala also warned Wike that his day of reckoning is near for disparaging the Ijaw people, who made sacrifices to ensure his uninterrupted eight-year tenure as governor. Furthermore, Alapala is urging all Ijaw leaders, including those in politics and other stakeholders, as well as the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and the Ijaw National Congress (INC), to unite against Wike’s verbal attacks.

Alapala stressed that Wike’s outbursts should not be taken lightly and should be carefully examined to determine the appropriate course of action. Additionally, Alapala is calling on all Ijaws to rally behind Governor Fubara, emphasizing that Fubara is, first and foremost, an Ijaw man before being a governor. As the Rivers State political crisis intensifies, Alapala demands that all Ijaws stand in solidarity with Fubara.

Alapala further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to call Wike to order as the FCT Minister’s outbursts is showcasing him in bad light amongst stakeholders across the Ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta.

Alapala Anthony Ebitonmo is the Minority Whip and Member Representing Burutu State Constituency 1, in the Delta State House of Assembly.
