“GOV. FUBARA/WIKE PEACE PACT COMMENDABLE AS IT IS INTRIGUING” ~ BARR. AYEBAKUROIGBETA

Admonishes Ijaw/Bayelsa Youths to learn from the Rivers State episode, as no Youth was invited to Abuja to be part of the peace processes.

A former Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta PhD has commended the duo of Chief Barr Nyemsom Ezenwo Wike and His Excellency Sir Siminalaye Fubara for putting their differences aside in the interest of Rivers State. Igbeta also hailed His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for the initiative to begin the process of righting the wrong done to Rivers people by settling the discord from it’s very roots -that is the settlement of the disputing elements.

Igbeta made his remarks while reacting to the news of the peace pact between the Minister of the FCT Chief Barr. Nyemsom Wike and the embattled Governor of Rivers State Sir Siminalaye Fubara, Describing the development as a welcome initiative and in the best interest of Rivers people, he called on President Tinubu to make good of the opportunity and go the best further by terminating the illegal state of emergency and reinstate Fubara as the rightful and elected Governor of Rivers State.

The former IYC Legal Adviser and Chief Scribe of the Prosperity Youths Coalition, in his remarks called on Bayelsa State youths to pay very careful attention to the Wike/Fubara saga and take viable lessons home. Igbeta queried that with all the for and against arguments around the then raging dispute, no supporter, not any fanboy or social media influencer was consulted or even invited to the peace pact at the Aso rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. This goes to tell our irrelevance and insignificance as youths before most of the leaders we follow, while followers arrogate roles to ourselves and create unnecessary enemities claiming to belong to this or that political camps, youths according to the vibrant youth leader must learn to calculate their own interest in the political dynamics rather than follow blindly a leader whose real motives are usually personal and undisclosed.

Igbeta stated that the admonition has become necessary especially when the trend of politics in Bayelsa is bleak and uncertain in the very near future and we may begin to witness cross carpeting from one political party to another, and the weight would be on youths to follow their leaders even where some of the political maneuvers are clearly against the youths’ individual aspirations or convictions.

“We as youths of Bayelsa must be wise in this game of politics, we can not go around inheriting enemies in the name of one leader or godfather, because in the end we can create allegiances amongst ourselves. Just imagine President Tinubu brokered a peace deal between Wike and Fubara, none of their followers was given the chance to air a thought, but most have created permanent enemies in account of this two, it is on this ground that I urge youths to refrain from making unwarranted comments especially about opposing leaders because nobody knows what the future holds, today it has been Rivers State who knows with the way things are going in Bayelsa State, by the time we get close to the 2027 general elections and the Bayelsa State guber of that same year, things may have taken a new twist and the polity becomes rife with polarized ideas, but we must prepare for those times, youths must not burn bridges but rather seek to mend fences and hold strong onto friendships, because in the end everyone is after their own agenda, and the game is about access to and control of resources (human resources and otherwise)”

Barr. Igbeta stressed, and congratulated the people of Rivers State who now have a little window of hope that their state may soon be liberated, expressing that the prolonged crisis between the leaders had dragged the state months back in development and in the political arena, as a total stranger for a couple of months has been put in charge of their common destiny, a man who do not understand the Rivers story had dictated their daily lives based only on his own whimps and caprices. Igbeta however commended the Rivers people for their calm, serene and peaceful nature in handling of this entire episode and for not allowing themselves and their state to degenerate to a state of anarchy.
