The newly sworn-in Commissioner for Environment in Ondo State, Dr. Tob Loko, has expressed his commitment to transforming the state’s environmental landscape through proactive legislation and implementation.

During a meeting with the Committee on the Review of Ondo State Environmental Laws, Dr. Loko emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment in line with the OUR EASE Agenda of the State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He stressed that for the people of Ondo State to enjoy good health and quality of life, a consistently clean and well-managed environment is essential.

The Commissioner commended the committee for the progress made so far and encouraged members to approach the assignment with diligence and professionalism, noting that the revised laws would impact both residents and visitors. He expressed confidence in the competence of the committee, given its diverse and experienced composition.

Dr. Loko directed the committee to carry out a thorough and comprehensive review of the existing environmental laws, many of which are outdated. He urged them to expedite their work to ensure timely delivery of a modern legal framework that supports a clean, safe, and sustainable environment for all.

Earlier in the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee and Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Kinga Olumide, said the aim is to consolidate and update the various environmental protection laws into a comprehensive legal compendium for the state.

The committee is made up of professionals from the Ministry of Justice, Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency, Waste Management Authority, and departmental heads from key units within the Ministry of Environment, including Environmental Assessment, Beautification, Parks & Gardens, Ecology, Policy Research & Statistics, Compliance, Monitoring & Enforcement, Climate Change, Pollution Control and Sanitation.
