The Parliament Diary

The recent accolades showered on Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori of Delta State by no less a person than Elder Statesman and Ijaw National Leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, underscore the transformative strides being made in the twin cities of Effurun and Warri. For a leader of Chief Clark’s stature to openly endorse Oborevwori’s infrastructural initiatives demonstrates that the governor’s administration is moving in the right direction, delivering impactful governance and addressing critical developmental needs.

It is no news that Delta State has been yearning for infrastructural revamp in its urban areas, particularly Effurun and Warri, which are pivotal to the economic and social prosperity of the state. By engaging the services of Julius Berger Nigeria Limited to construct three flyover bridges, a cloverleaf interchange, and undertake significant road expansion in these areas, Governor Oborevwori has not only fulfilled one of his key electioneering promises but has also set the stage for unprecedented urban renewal. These projects, valued at reasonable amount, are bound to improve traffic flow, ease transportation, and enhance the quality of life for residents of the region.

In an open letter brimming with optimism and goodwill, Elder Clark, a former Minister of Information and convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), described the decision to embark on such mega projects as a “right step” towards fulfilling Oborevwori’s promises to Deltans. According to Clark, these projects signal a governor who has started his tenure on a strong note, prioritizing the needs of his people.

Elder Clark’s words are particularly instructive in a time when many leaders shy away from taking bold steps to address infrastructural deficits. His commendation reminds us of the invaluable role elder statesmen play in offering guidance and encouragement to leaders who strive to make a difference. As a father figure and revered voice in the Niger Delta, Clark’s endorsement of these projects lends credence to their necessity and importance. His appeal to Governor Oborevwori to extend similar developmental gestures to other parts of the state highlights his genuine concern for equity and progress across Delta State.

It is often said that “a good product sells itself,” and this adage perfectly encapsulates the situation at hand. The “MORE Agenda” of Governor Oborevwori, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, is evidently on track. The governor’s efforts are receiving recognition not through excessive self-promotion but through the tangible impact of his policies and projects.

Elder Clark’s open letter is not just an endorsement but also a call to sustain and deepen the strides already being made. His assurance of full support and readiness to provide wise counsel is a rare gesture that every leader should treasure. It is a reminder that leadership is a collective responsibility, and the wisdom of elders often provides the steady hand needed to navigate complex challenges.

I join Elder Clark in congratulating my dear, leader, and boss, for these bold and visionary projects that are set to redefine Effurun and Warri. These infrastructural interventions are not merely constructions of steel and concrete; they are symbols of hope, progress, and the fulfillment of a social contract.

To Governor Oborevwori, I say this: the accolades from Elder Clark and other well-meaning Nigerians are proof that your leadership is resonating with the people. The path you have chosen is one of legacy, and history will judge you kindly for prioritizing the welfare of Deltans. Your MORE Agenda is not just a promise; it is becoming a lived reality for many, and the ripple effects of your actions will be felt for generations to come.

As you move forward, may the words of encouragement from Elder Clark serve as a beacon, guiding you to remain steadfast in your mission. Delta State is watching, Nigeria is watching, and the future is bright for a state led by a man of vision and action. Continue to engage all stakeholders, tap into the wealth of wisdom around you, and remember that good governance is the bridge that connects promises to the people’s aspirations.

Indeed, my boss, your “good product” is selling itself, and Deltans are proud to call you their leader. May your tenure be marked by more milestones, more development, and more accolades as you build a better Delta State for all.
