The Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, Chief Godwin Adode has averred that the association is committed to providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to both active and retired footballers in the state.
Chief Adode stated this when he paid a working visit to the Director General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta in his office.
The DFA Chairman said footballers often face significant health challenges during and after their playing careers ranging from injuries to chronic conditions while being unable to bear the cost of accessing quality healthcare services.
He said to this end the DFA was keen on partnering with the DSCHC in a bid to register the players in the state run health scheme in a bid to make quality healthcare service delivery accessible to them at little or no cost.
Chief Adode said the DFA has decided to establish a dedicated health scheme tailored to the unique needs of athletes including injury management, rehabilitation and mental health support, while also creating awareness towards promoting healthcare measures within the football community.
He lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued dedication towards delivering more dividends of democracy to Deltans in line with his MORE agenda.
Chief Adode also commended the Chairman of DSCHC for his unwavering commitment to improving the health and welfare of Deltans, stressing that the DFA was looking forward to see a mirthful partnership that would see over two thousand footballers registering under the scheme.
The Director General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta while commending the DFA for taking the bold step towards bringing quality healthcare to several Deltans in the informal sector, asserting that football was about physicality and intelligence.
Dr. Akpoveta said only healthy people participate in sports hence the need to sustain their health was a welcomed development.
He assured the DFA of the schemes dedication to enhancing the health of Deltans stressing that Governor Oborevwori had remained committed to the provision of quality healthcare to Deltans.
Dr. Akpoveta however enjoined the DFA Chairman and well placed Deltans to buy into the scheme by registering indigent Deltans in the scheme in a bid to reach out to more Deltans.
The DSCHC head later presented souvenir to the DFA Board Chairman, Chief Adode, who was accompanied by the Delta North representative on the board, Mr. Solomon Iwerenor and Secretary of the association, Mr. Patrick Mariere.
