Impressed by the superlative performance of the Ika South Local Government administration led by Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, some notable community leaders in the area have given the thump up to him and his administration.

The leaders gave the commendation on Tuesday, after visiting the completed phase one of Abude Street, the newly built Alihame Modern Market, the Grocery Stand at Ediken Street Junction, the ongoing bridge project across Orogodo River and Alifekede Daily Market.

The elders, who spoke through Ambassador John Nwagimejen, said they were highly impressed with the quality of the different projects.

Ambassador Nwagimejen, who lauded the proactive approach to governance of Engr. Ehiwarior, said the people of Ika South did not make any mistake in electing him, as he had proven to be capable in delivering on his mandate.

“In just six months of being in office, the young man has performed beyond the expectation of our people. From what we have seen today, it is clear our Chairman came ready to work for the people.

“There is nobody that can fault his six months in office as the evidence of his outstanding results are there for all to see. I can say without any equivocation that this is one of the best performing Chairmen Ika South has produced. And we are grateful to the electorate for giving him their mandate,” he added.

Ambassador Nwagimejen said there was the need for the people of Ika South to remain united in their support for the local government boss, emphasizing that it was only in an atmosphere of enduring love and peace that sustainable development could thrive.

The elder statesman used the opportunity to sympathise with victims of the January 5, 2025 tanker fire incident along Old Lagos/Asaba Road in Agbor. “Our prayers go out to those affected by the tanker inferno which claimed some lives, and destroyed property and businesses. We identify with them in their trying moment and pray God to strengthen them,” he prayed.

The elders also commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his empathy by promptly sending his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, who visited the scene of the incident and the homes of some of the families of those who died and a result of the fire outbreak.

He called on the state government to put adequate measures in place to avert future occurrence, adding that there was need to strengthen the state fire service in Agbor for effective service delivery in the event of any fire outbreak in the area of its coverage.

He also pleaded with the government to explore ways to assist those whose businesses were impacted by the inferno to cushion their pains.

Other leaders on the projects tour included Chief Philip Igumbor, Rear Admiral Peter Eluma (rtd), Professor Alika, Col Abiodun Eboma (rtd) Mr. Sam Igumbor, Ika South PDP Chairman, Comrade Amechi Igumbor and Mr. Godwin Ezedom.
