Court Convicts Two for Illegal Dumping of Waste in Imo State

By Our Reporter A Magistrate Court sitting in Owerri on Thursday convicted Ms. Patrick Prince and Ms. Timothy Winner for the offence of illegal dumping of waste, following their prosecution by the Environmental Waste Management Authority Company (EWAMAC).

The defendants were arraigned for acts contrary to extant environmental sanitation and waste management laws of Imo State. After hearing the matter, the Honourable Court found both offenders guilty as charged.In its judgment, the Court imposed a fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000.00) each as penalty for the offence, emphasizing the need to deter indiscriminate disposal of waste and protect public health and the environment.The conviction underscores EWAMAC’s ongoing commitment to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable environment across the State.

The Authority has reiterated that offenders will continue to face prosecution in line with the law.EWAMAC further urged residents to comply with approved waste disposal procedures and cooperate with sanitation authorities to promote environmental responsibility and public order.
