Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has confirmed July this year as the timeline set by the contractor handling three key projects in Akwanga for completion.

Governor Sule made this known when he took an on-the-spot assessment of the level of work on the dualization of Akwanga township road, as well as the underpass, on Sunday.

The Governor was barely returning from his one week trip to China following the invitation of Lovol, a Chinese industrial equipment manufacturing company primarily focusing on agricultural equipment.

While inspecting the Akwanga township dualization project, Governor Sule expressed concern on the restrictions the project could pose for the flow of vehicular traffic, urging the project manager to ensure that alternative routes are provided in order to ease free flow of traffic.

At the site of the ongoing construction of the Akwanga underpass, the Governor told the project manager that he ealier met with the chairman of Bahus Nigeria Ltd in order to press in for the speedy completion of all the three projects in Akwanga, including the 5.6km Akwanga bypass.

He confirmed that the chairman of the construction company handling the project assured that all the three projects would be completed by July this year.

Commenting on the project, the Governor emphasized on the need for safety, expressing concern over some buildings that appear hovering over the deep excavation for the underpass.

He equally demanded to know if the company paid compensation to all those whose buildings were affected by the project.

Responding, the project manager confirmed that the company has paid necessary compensation to owners of buildings that were demolished to pave way for the underpass project to commence.

He assured that adequate measures are being taken to ensure safety at the site of the project.

The project manager informed that as part of the measures to prevent accidents, the company is undertaking the castings of the underpass simultaneously with the excavation.

He further assured that the projects would be completed on time and according to specifications.

The Governor was accompanied on the assessment visit by the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, who doubles as the Nasarawa State ALGON Chairman, and former commissioner for environment and natural resources, Dr. Kwanta Yakubu, amongst other government officials.
