The Parliament Diary

To advance economy, peace and security in the society, a humanitarian and illustrious son of Imo State, Mazi Chima Amadi, has harped on good governance and purposeful leadership, skills acquisition, active farming or mechanized agriculture, trading and artisanship.

He said when the people especially the youth and women are adequately mentally and physically empowered with full functional infrastructure and enabling grounds, productivity and resourcefulness will be enhanced with wealth being created and enjoyed by all persons in the society.

Amadi, a business mogul and role model, who spoke during the 4th Public Lecture and Birthday Celebration of Prof. Protus Uzorma Nathan in Owerri recently, said any society that prioritizes good governance and purposeful leadership, puts in place working infrastructure, engages the people particularly youths and women into meaningful activities, would always make a healthy progress with citizens enjoying good living.

While urging government at all levels to rise to the occasion by training the youth and women on productive skills and commerce and industry with a view to improving goodness, economic prosperity and social security in the state, Amadi said he believes so much in lifting the people positively.

He faulted some politicians for using tricycle (Keke Napep), bikes, wheelbarrow, meagre money to empower the youth and women who he said sing their unmerited praises, as well as help them to rig election and uphold graft and corruption at their own detriment.

“There are so many things going on in the state that you do not have to wait 2027 – 2027 is too far to wait. I think right now, there is a crisis ravaging our land – the crisis of hunger, crisis of insecurity, crisis of lack of direction by the rulers and the led.

“I think it is not too late for every government – at all levels – whether Federal or State, Local Government Council – and even NGOs – to do something regarding building the youth and the women productively.

“What can be done is, to focus on the youth and women. There are a lot of things – programs – that can be put in place to empower them. And when I use EMPOWER – I do not use it in the way the Average Politician uses EMPOWER. EMPOWER is not used in that manner where you give people Keke Napep and Wheelbarrows – I mean, I have nothing against Keke Napep or giving people Wheelbarrows.

“It has to be a direct, well thought out program where people will be wealth creators later in the course of their journey…Creating enabling environments by government will help a lot to strengthen businesses and security to improve economy, prosperity, peace, comfort, development”, Mazi Chima Amadi stressed.

He donated huge amount of money to Prof Protus Uzorma Foundation to support the initiative’s efforts on youth and women emancipation from poverty, suffering, crime, incarceration, slavery and imprisonment.
