The Parliament Diary

The above editorial written by the faceless and irrelevant entity hiding under the pseudonym “Progress D Gateway” is nothing more than a poorly constructed propaganda piece aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the image of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State. Each of the claims made in the article is not only baseless but also reeks of desperation. Why i know that nothing in the quoted article can cause anyone sleeplessness within the rank of the PDP, since I have few minutes of my precious time to spare, let me critically evaluate and render each of these assertions irrelevant:

The MORE Agenda Is Far from Dysfunctional

The baseless claim that the MORE agenda of His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is “dysfunctional and retrogressive” is a blatant lie. The MORE agenda (Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security) has been driving unprecedented development in Delta State. Governor Oborevwori has prioritized critical sectors like infrastructure, education, healthcare, and rural development, ensuring that every Deltan benefits from his administration. Very recently, foremost political leader in Delta State, Pa Edwin Clark attested to this fact and Deltans in their large number has been pouring accolades on the governor for bringing development nearer to them everyday.

Progress D Gateway’s inability to substantiate this claim exposes their lack of credibility and underscores the fact that this is an attempt to discredit a forward-thinking administration. Distinguished readers, do you know what? Good product sells itself but only circumcised minds would know. Certainly not that of them in the infamous Progress D Gateway. Much recently, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and leader of the All Progressives Congress showered accolades on our performing governor as the best governor of the modern Nigeria democracy. One would have expected those of them in the Progress D Gateway rank to quickly correct Mr. President.

Okowa’s Alleged “Dictatorship” and “Third Term by Proxy”

It is laughable to label Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as a “dictator” or to insinuate that Governor Oborevwori is a puppet of Okowa. Both leaders have proven to be independent-minded and visionary in their leadership. I don’t know if there is anyone to inform within the ranks of them in the Progress D Gateway camp: many of the appointees of Rt.Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori do not even have a single affinity with Sen. Okowa. Governor Oborevwori is charting his own course and implementing his policies without external interference. Pa E.K. Clark attested to this fact, also.

The claim that political figures must go through Okowa for appointments is therefore baseless fabrication. Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated a commitment to meritocracy, ensuring that appointments are based on competence and dedication to the state. This lie only reveals the writer’s ignorance of governance processes in Delta State.

Imaginary “1.3 Trillion” Looting by Okowa

The figure of 1.3 trillion naira allegedly looted by Okowa is an outright falsehood designed to provoke emotions. This kind of narrative is what in academic we called “working from answer to question while looking for logical conclusion”. This i believe those of them within the rank of Progress D Gateway don’t know. Such accusations require evidence, and none has been provided. Dr. Okowa’s administration was marked by transparency and fiscal discipline, with numerous projects to show for every naira spent.

Progress D Gateway’s hollow claim does not stand up to scrutiny and further demonstrates their lack of credibility.

Defections of Prince Ned Nwoko and Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu

The assertion that the defections of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu signal a weakness in the PDP is misguided. Both individuals left the PDP not because of any vulnerability but to avoid healthy internal competition within the party. I have severely written series of articles to substantiate thisassertion. The PDP is a party of strong structures and deep democratic values, and these defections are of no consequence to its dominance in Delta State.

It is also worth noting that their constituencies are already mobilizing to recall them, as the law is clear on illegal defections. Their actions are not aligned with the interests of their people, and they will soon face the political consequences of abandoning the PDP. There are several cases to attest to this. Classical example is Rotimi Amaechi versus INEC.

APC in Delta State: A Shadow of a Support Group

The writer’s fantasy that the APC will “break into the State Assembly and LGA chairmen” is nothing short of delusional. The APC in Delta State is a weak and fragmented group with no meaningful structure or grassroots support. The presence of it in Delta State is much more comparable to PDP support groups such as the NationalAtikulate Movement 4 Emancipation (NAME), the Integrity Group, or at its best, the DeltaRenaissance Coalition. Its abysmal performance at the polls over the years reflects its inability to connect with the people.

While the PDP continues to deliver on its promises, the APC has been embroiled in internal crises and has failed to present a viable alternative. Deltans are too politically aware to be deceived by the propaganda of a party that has brought nothing but hardship at the federal level.

“Ukodo Administration” and Mockery

Referring to Governor Oborevwori’s administration as an “undocumented Ukodo administration” is a childish attempt at mockery. The “Ukodo” symbolism represents unity and shared prosperity, which are the hallmarks of Oborevwori’s administration. This attack only shows the writer’s lack of maturity and understanding of the governor’s efforts to build an inclusive and prosperous Delta State. I will therefore hold this not against the juvenile writer.

I’m preparing to return to my table for much more important research, but I will leave this for the authors in the Progress D Gateway: your efforts has come to nothing but an ill-conceived, baseless, and desperate attempt to tarnish the image of the PDP and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration. Every claim you made is rooted in falsehood and deliberate misinformation.

The PDP remains the dominant political party in Delta State, with a track record of delivering development and good governance. No amount of propaganda or defection can change this fact. As for the APC, it remains a shadow of a support group, incapable of challenging the PDPs’ dominance in the state.

As the 2027 elections approach, let it be clear that there is no Jupiter that can take Delta State from the grip of the PDP. Any contrary postulation in that direction is an exercise in futility and academic at best. Deltans are firmly with the PDP, and no amount of propaganda will change that.
