Nasarawa Health Commissioner Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Healthcare at World Health Day Lecture

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, has reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery under the visionary leadership of Governor Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.
Dr. Gaza made this assertion on Tuesday while serving as Guest of Honour at a Public Lecture organized by the management of Phoenix University, Agwada, in commemoration of World Health Day 2025.
The commissioner emphasized that Governor Sule’s led administration remains focused on enhancing the quality of life and improving health outcomes through increased access to affordable and efficient healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable and indigene populations.
He highlighted initiatives include the revitalization of Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities, expanded population and service coverage through the state health insurance scheme, bridging the human resource gaps in the healthcare workforce, and improving access to quality medicines and health commodities through the establishment of the Nasarawa State Drugs Supply and Management Agency.
Dr. Gaza also reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support Phoenix University in enhancing the quality of healthcare services available to its staff and students, both on campus and within surrounding communities.
Delivering his lecture, the commissioner provided a comprehensive perspective on health and wellbeing from conception through to the end of life emphasizing the importance of the broader determinants of health, including genetic, social, economic, cultural, political, and environmental factors.
Notably, Dr. Gaza announced plans for the establishment of a dedicated regulatory outfit to monitor and oversee healthcare facilities and institutions in the state. This initiative according to him aims to curb the proliferation of substandard and unlicensed health centers operated by unqualified personnel.
He concluded by expressing profound appreciation to the founder of Phoenix University and former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Dr. Abdullahi Adamu (Turakin Keffi), for his foresight in establishing the institution. He also commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Bala, and the university’s management for the kind invitation and their commitment to advancing education and health in the state.
