Abbas Tajudeen finest choice for Zaria, Umar tells voters

People of Zaria Federal Constituency, have been urged to support the re-election of the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, describing him as a tested and accessible leader whose record in office justifies continuity.

Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker, Umar Abubakar made the appeal on Thursday in a statement addressed to residents of Zaria, arguing that the forthcoming election should be decided on the basis of performance, accessibility and tangible service delivery rather than campaign promises or political rhetoric.

He maintained that the Speaker had consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare and development of the constituency.

According to him, governance is about providing succour, relief and comfort to the people, stressing that elected representatives must remain accessible to those they serve and respond promptly to their needs. He said the people of Zaria should reward leaders who had maintained close contact with their constituents.

The legislative aide said the election presented voters with a choice between proven leadership and untested promises, insisting that continuity was necessary to consolidate ongoing development projects and interventions across the constituency.

He said the Speaker was already familiar with the challenges confronting communities across Zaria, adding that such institutional knowledge placed him in a better position to attract more projects and effectively represent the people at the National Assembly.

Abubakar warned against electing representatives who become inaccessible after winning elections, alleging that such leaders often fail to influence budgetary allocations, facilitate constituency projects or respond to emergencies affecting their constituents.

He maintained that residents should evaluate aspirants based on their legislative records, constituency engagements, empowerment programmes and responsiveness to the needs of the people rather than campaign slogans or media appearances.

According to him, voters should assess the number of motions, bills and interventions undertaken on behalf of Zaria, as well as the frequency with which elected officials visited the constituency outside election periods.

He further argued that continuity in leadership helps sustain development initiatives, noting that projects already initiated by an incumbent stand a better chance of completion when such a leader is returned to office.

Abubakar also called on residents to consider accessibility as a major criterion in choosing their representative, saying leaders who maintain open communication with constituents are better positioned to address pressing social and economic challenges.

He acknowledged calls for political renewal but cautioned against replacing leaders solely for the sake of change, insisting that any decision should be guided by measurable performance and the interests of the people
