Nasarawa Govt Moves to Support Motor Park Fire Victims, Releases ₦10m for Reconstruction of Affected Shops

Nasarawa state Government has taken steps to assuage the plight of victims of the recent fire outbreak that gutted a motor park in Nasarawa local government area.

Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe gave the assurance when he took an on the spot assessment of the degree of damages done by the fire outbreak at the motor park.

The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe who first visited the palace of the Emir of Nasarawa to sympathise with the royal father, informed the monarch that he came at the behest of Governor Abdullahi Sule to assess the situation to see how government can wade in to assist shop owners who lost valuable items.

He urged those affected to see the act as a test of faith, assuring that there will be adequate provision for fire prevention in all major markets across the state to forestall a reoccurrence.

While going round the shops affected by the fire outbreak to see the level of damages, the deputy governor directed the release of ten million naira for the reconstruction of the affected shops, adding that government will act on the report of the assesment team from the state ministry of trade, industry and investment to ensure compensation for traders who lost their valuables.

Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin and the Chairman of Nasarawa local government council, represented by his deputy, Sabo Iduwa appreciated the deputy governor for identifying with them over the incident, noting that the shops at the motor park belonging to vehicle and motorcycle unions were rented out to dealers of handsets and phone assessories, who lost over fifty million naira worth of goods.

The dou commended the government for constructing a standard modern township market in Nasarawa, which according to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, Hajiya Khadijat Oshafu has reached completion stage and awaiting reticulation for adequate water supply, just as the state Assembly Member representing Nasarawa Central Constituency, Hajiya Hajarat Danyaro donated the sum of one million naira to support traders at the motor park.

Speaking on behalf of traders who are counting their losses, Chairman of the market union at the motor park, Gambo Dan Kabo appreciated the government and the lawmaker for coming to their aid and sued for expedite action on the reconstruction of the shops razed down by the fire outbreak to restore market activities
