A civil servant, Aisha Shehu Korau, has petitioned the House of Representatives, seeking protection from an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), whom she accuses of criminal intimidation, cyberbullying, and threats to her life.
In the petition dated February 20, 2025, and addressed to the Speaker of the House through the Committee on Public Petitions, Korau alleged that the DSS officer, Mohammed Sabiu Garba, has subjected her to a series of threats, including hacking her phone and bank accounts, physical assault, and defamation.
She narrated that she was married to Garba in 2019, and the union produced a son, Abdallah, before their divorce in 2023 under Islamic law. According to her, Garba issued a letter of divorce and later obtained a certificate of divorce from a competent court.
Despite the separation, Korau claims that Garba has continued to harass her, alleging that in 2024, he kidnapped their child for nearly two weeks—between November 26 and December 5—and pressured her into remarrying him, threatening that she would never see their son again if she refused.
She further alleged that sometime in January 2025, Garba falsely presented himself as a judge from Katsina while contacting her colleagues at the National Commission for Refugees, where she works. According to her, he claimed she was a fugitive and should be handed over to the authorities.
In addition to these allegations, Korau accused the DSS officer of using his security expertise to hack her phone, email, and bank account, carrying out illegal transactions in her name.
“The respondent, while speaking in Hausa, threatened to deal with me until I would be left with no child, no job, no man to marry me, and a heart attack,” she wrote in her petition.
Korau, who said she has evidence to support her claims, also alleged that Garba has been following her movements with the intention of harming her, adding that he continues to defame her by calling her a prostitute, while also falsely claiming to still be her husband.
She urged the House of Representatives to intervene by investigating the matter and referring it to law enforcement agencies for proper action.
Korau also prayed the House to direct Garba to cease all acts of harassment and stop coming near her to ensure her safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the DSS has not issued an official response to the allegations.
