Senate committees applauds Tinubu over military salary increase
The Senate Committees on Defence and Army have commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, effective September 1, 2026.
The committees’ chairmen, Senator Ahmad Lawan and Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, described the move as a demonstration of compassion and strategic leadership. Under the new salary structure, junior ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80% increase, Warrant Officers to Colonels 50%, while senior officers up to the rank of General will receive 30%.
The committees said the adjustment will benefit about 250,000 personnel, raise the annual wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, boost morale, and strengthen efficiency and unity across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
