It is necessary to respond with facts and clarity to the recent open letter written by one Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo — popularly known as “Mr Figo” — addressed to Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Edo State Executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in which he levelled unfounded allegations of underperformance against Senator Neda Imasuen, the distinguished representative of Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

While we welcome constructive criticism in a thriving democracy, it is regrettable that Comrade Ikhuenbor’s commentary strays from objectivity and descends into a theatre of personal grievance, likely fuelled by unmet financial expectations rather than a genuine concern for the welfare of the people.

Comrade Ikhuenbor’s claim that Senator Imasuen has failed to deliver on his mandate is not only mischievous but demonstrably false. In just two years of legislative service, Senator Imasuen has shown measurable results through impactful representation, robust legislative engagement, and strategic developmental initiatives across Edo South.

Legislative Accomplishments: Senator Imasuen has sponsored and actively pursued the passage of several people-oriented bills, including:

Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill, 2024 – aimed at expanding access to quality tertiary education in Edo South.

Federal Medical Centres Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – targeted at improving healthcare delivery through legislative reform.

He has also resolved nine (9) petitions presented by aggrieved Nigerians, ensuring justice for individuals and communities across the country. More petitions remain under review, exemplifying his ongoing commitment to fairness, accountability, and due process.

Education and Youth Development: In an era where access to education is pivotal to social mobility, Senator Imasuen has:

Sponsored annual scholarships for 420 indigent students across Edo South.

Provided full secondary school scholarships for numerous pupils, covering their entire schooling duration.

Annually funded JAMB registration for hundreds of candidates from underprivileged backgrounds.

Distributed writing materials to 21 primary schools – an ongoing programme to support foundational learning.

Empowerment and Grassroots Development: The Senator’s grassroots interventions speak volumes:

Facilitated agricultural training, distribution of farming tools and fertilisers to boost food security and create employment.

Sponsored fashion design training for local tailors and distributed empowerment tools such as sewing machines and generators.

Attracted over 2,000 presidential grants to support micro-businesses.

Created over 17 federal job placements for Edo South indigenes.

Installed over 1,000 solar-powered streetlights and transformers, contributing to safer communities and improved night-time commerce, all powered by renewable energy.

No fewer than 500 farmers from the 77 wards in the senatorial district have benefited from the distribution of farm implements and grants from Senator Imasuen.

Political Strategy for Greater Development: Senator Imasuen’s anticipated move to the APC should not be misrepresented as political opportunism. Rather, it is a calculated step towards leveraging federal alignment to bring more developmental dividends to the Edo South Senatorial District. This is in harmony with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, and positions Edo South to benefit from national programmes and infrastructure.

A Call for Constructive Engagement: We urge Comrade Ikhuenbor and others of his ilk to rise above petty vendettas and join hands in the collective mission to uplift Edo South. Senator Imasuen remains open to collaboration with all well-meaning citizens committed to the progress and prosperity of our people.

Let it be on record that Senator Neda Imasuen’s record of performance is not only transparent but rooted in service, compassion, and commitment to the people of Edo South. Empty rhetoric cannot erase these facts.
