LG WAR IN EDO: ETSAKO EAST LEGISLATIVE MACE SNATCHED, AS COUNCILLORS DISTANCE THEMSELVES, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR PRINCESS BENEDICTA ATTOH
All ten Councillors in Etsako East local Government Council has distanced themselves from the Legislative mace that was snatched by hoodlums today at the council Secretariat in the desperation of the opposition party to use the mace on behalf of the Councillors to impeach the Chairman.
The Councillors in a statement issued today through the majority leader of the House Hon. Ibrahim Abdulsalim Afoso described the perpetrators as democratic assassins who seek to murder Democracy in Etsako East.
“We reaffirmed our unwavering support for the council Chairman Hon. (princess) Benedicta Attoh. We are standing with her and by her. Any impeachment from any quarter can’t stand because it’s not coming from the elected Councillors. Hon. Benedicta Attoh is the Executive Chairman Etsako East local Government Council and it will remain so”.
According to the statement, we have just received reports that the legislative mace of the Etsako East Local Government Council has been stolen by unknown persons.
We condemn this act and disassociate ourselves from this blatant display of desperation and lawlessness.
In light of recent events, we, the councilors of Etsako East Local Government Area, wish to reaffirm our unwavering support and loyalty to our Chairman, Hon. Princess Benedicta Attoh. We stand firmly behind her leadership and vision for our local government council.
“We urge the perpetrators of the theft to return the mace immediately and call on the security agencies to investigate this incident and bring the culprits to justice.”
They assure the members of the public that the Etsako East legislative arm of the council will continue to perform their constitutional duties without any interruption, and will not be deterred by the unfortunate incident. “No amount of intimidation will change our stand” they insist.
They maintained that, for the avoidance of doubt, the general public should be aware that Etsako East Legislators are fully with Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh and that any rumour of impeachment of the Etsako East local Government Council Chairman should be ignored as the mace was stolen to enable these democracy assassins to carry out their illicit act. We therefore warned against break down of peace and order in the council as we approach the New year, the statement added.
