Nigeria-US Parliamentary Group Pledges Stronger Bilateral Ties

The Nigeria-United States of America Parliamentary Friendship Group of the House of Representatives has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering legislative collaboration between the two nations.
Speaking during the group’s meeting yesterday, Hon. (Barr.) Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Chairman of the group, highlighted the importance of their mandate in enhancing Nigeria’s democratic governance and promoting development.
Hon. Onuakalusi expressed gratitude to the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (Ph.D), for entrusting the group with the responsibility of deepening Nigeria-US relations. He also commended his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udoh (Ph.D), and past committee members for laying a solid foundation for the group’s work.
“Our appointment underscores the House Leadership’s commitment to fostering diplomatic ties and strengthening our legislative relationship with the United States,” Onuakalusi stated. He emphasized that the group’s jurisdiction, as outlined in the House Standing Orders, includes expanding bilateral relations through exchanges of visits, workshops, seminars, and the sharing of parliamentary practices and procedures.
The chairman urged members of the group to remain dedicated, cooperative, and proactive in achieving their shared vision. “The success of our committee rests on our collective efforts and commitment to diplomatic and parliamentary collaborations. Together, we can actualize our mandate and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress,” he said.
Onuakalusi assured the House leadership of the group’s determination to deliver tangible results, adding, “By the special grace of God, we will deliver our best to ensure that our mandate is fulfilled.”
The meeting concluded with renewed resolve among members to strengthen Nigeria’s legislative democracy and bolster its diplomatic ties with the United States.
