Kano Assembly Ratifies Garo Appointment As Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the deputy governor of the state following his successful screening by lawmakers.

The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the report of an ad hoc committee during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore on Monday.

Presenting the report, the committee chairman and deputy speaker, Muhammad Bello, said the nomination of Garo was necessitated by the resignation of the former deputy governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

He stated that the screening exercise was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee in the event of a vacancy in the office of the deputy governor.

Bello explained that the nominee underwent a comprehensive screening, including a question-and-answer session covering his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance and vision for the state.

He added that the committee also verified Garo’s credentials and found him suitable for the position.

According to the report, Garo demonstrated a clear grasp of the responsibilities of the office and articulated a workable vision to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in delivering its mandate.

The committee subsequently recommended his confirmation, which was unanimously adopted by the House.

Following the adoption, the Speaker put the recommendation to a voice vote, with members unanimously approving the nomination.

The Assembly thereafter formally confirmed Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.

Lawmakers also reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration with the executive arm to promote good governance, accountability and the overall development of the state.
