Ika South LG Chairman Flags Off Measles-Rubella Vaccination

In furtherance of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of children, and sustaining the health of citizens of the area, the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, on Monday at Agbor, officially flagged off the Vaccination against Measles-Rubella in the area.

The initiative is aimed at protecting infants and children within the age brackets 0 to 14 years, from some deadly viral diseases will cut across all the wards in Ika South Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event which was witnessed by representatives of the World Health Organization, WHO, top management staff of the local government and other stakeholders, including traditional chiefs, market women, artisans and health care practitioners in the area, Engr. Ehiwarior, reiterated the significance of the campaign, stating that it was to protect and promote the health and well-being of the children.

“This commendable initiative is aimed at protecting the lives of our children who are the future of our great country. Measles-Rubella are deadly viral diseases that affect children below the 14 years. It, therefore, becomes necessary that we take this exercise seriously, especially parents and guardians, as I urge them to cooperate with health workers to see that the children in Ika South get vaccinated,” he explained.

The Chairman, while appreciating all stakeholders, especially the World Health Organization, WHO, assured that the vaccines are safe, with no negative effects, and encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are presented for immunizations.

He charged immunization officers to ensure that the urban and rural areas across Ika South Local Government Area are fully covered.

He said, “No community should be left out in this all- important exercise that concern the health and future of our children. It is something we must all embrace as the benefits are unquantifiable and life-long,” adding that, “it is our collective responsibility to support this noble effort to safeguard the lives and future of the coming generations.

“As you all know, these vaccines come in different categories; however, these ones (Measles-Rubella) are strategic to the health, wellbeing and future of our young ones.”

Engr. Ehiwarior commended health officials of Ika South for what he termed their, “proactive attitude to work,” and assured them of his administration’s continued support.
