Hon. Barr. Harrison Anozie Nwadike, the Member representing Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele Federal Constituency and Commander of the Equity Project, has on March 6, 2025, presented a historic bill titled Constitution Alteration (Creation of Additional Local Government Areas in Imo State) Bill, 2025 (HB.3100) before the National Assembly.
This bill seeks to amend the Nigerian Constitution to empower the creation of additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) within Imo State, addressing long-standing issues related to resource distribution, governance, and administrative efficiency.
Hon. Nwadike’s proposal is designed to ensure a more inclusive and responsive government that will be better equipped to address the needs of communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The move is also aimed at fostering improved infrastructure development, economic growth, and overall community well-being across the state.
Speaking on the need for this bill, Hon. Nwadike stated, “The creation of additional LGAs in Imo State is a vital step towards ensuring better governance, fairer resource allocation, and a more efficient local government system. This will bring government closer to the people, enabling more tailored solutions to local issues and creating opportunities for sustainable development.”
The proposed bill comes after years of calls from stakeholders across Imo State for a more localized administrative structure. It aims to address gaps in governance and infrastructure while fostering social and economic development through the establishment of more local governments.
The Constitution Alteration (Creation of Additional Local Government Areas in Imo State) Bill, 2025 is expected to undergo the legislative process, and if passed, it will pave the way for significant transformation in the way local government services are delivered in Imo State.
Hon. Nwadike further emphasized, “This bill is not just about administrative expansion; it’s about ensuring that every community in Imo State has the necessary resources and attention it needs for growth and development. It’s a step toward strengthening the bond between the government and the people.”
This bill is a clear demonstration of Hon. Nwadike’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Imo residents and improving governance in the state. As the bill moves through the legislative process, it is expected to garner widespread support from both lawmakers and citizens alike.
