Senate President Godswill Akpabio has celebrated women, particularly Nigerian women, on this year’s International Women’s Day.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate president described women as a pillar of strength in society and acknowledged their invaluable role in shaping communities.

He praised women for their resilience and sacrifices in building families and contributing to national development.

According to him, he is a practical example of the positive influence of women, noting that mothers remain one of the greatest gifts God has given humanity.

“Today, I join the global community to celebrate our mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, colleagues and friends who wake up each day and work tirelessly to make the world a better place. Your relentless efforts can never go unnoticed,” he said.

Akpabio added that he remains a beneficiary of the love, care, compassion and sacrifices of women, particularly his mother, who he said played a major role in shaping his life.

“I am the biggest beneficiary of the love, care, compassion and sacrifice of a woman. My mother gave her all to raise me to become what I am today,” he stated.

The Senate President expressed gratitude to women for their dedication in raising children, supporting families and contributing to the development of society.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the legislature to advancing policies that promote women’s participation in national development.

“As a legislature and in consonance with the theme of this year’s celebration, we are committed to pushing for robust investment in our womenfolk in all spheres of life, especially female participation in the economic and political processes of our nation,” Akpabio said.

He congratulated Nigerian women on the occasion and wished them a peaceful and fulfilling celebration.

“On behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate and the 10th National Assembly, I congratulate all women and wish our mothers, sisters, daughters and aunties a blessed and peaceful celebration. May your efforts never go in vain,” he added.
