Lawmaker Seeks Transparency Over Gombe Governor’s Residence Project

A member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Usman Hassan, has called on the Executive arm of government to ensure transparency in the reported N14.9 billion for the construction of a modern Governor’s Residence within the Government House in Gombe.
Hassan, who stated this yesterday in Gombe, the state capital, said the request was necessary to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, especially at a time when many residents were grappling with economic hardship and critical sectors such as healthcare require increased government investment.
The lawmaker who commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya stressed that the people have the right to know how public funds are being utilised.
He also called for the release of key documents relating to the project, including the bill of quantities, cost justification, procurement records, funding structure and other relevant contract details.
In addition, Hassan requested information on the six reportedly completed but unused duplexes within the Government House, seeking clarification on their status and the rationale for embarking on a new official residence project.
According to him, the demand for greater disclosure is not politically motivated but is in line with his constitutional responsibility as a member of the Gombe State House of Assembly to ensure transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability in governance.
He maintained that the people of Gombe State deserve a government that places their welfare at the forefront and ensures that every kobo of public funds is spent prudently and delivers value for money. The lawmaker urged the state government to provide the requested information in the interest of openness, public confidence and responsible governance
